11 September 2002 - A Scott sailor reflects upon another terrorist act...
"USS Scott won round one in the war on terrorism, we were East Med Duty ship when the Achillie Lauro was hijacked, as we were pulling into Haifa, Israel 15 minutes after passing over lines we were ordered to get underway, the brow was across, and we dropped off some shipmates transferring off, with little more than a I Love You but gotta run notice, to those getting off the ship, then were we underway again.

Our orders were to stop Achillie Lauro from entering Syrian/Lebanon waters at all costs, Rumor Central had them as, "Ram If Necessary". The ship went to a "No Shitter" wartime GQ, we were within Silkworm missile range, and the "bad-guys" were painting us with fire control radar the whole time, made for a long anxious couple of days the ship buttoned up, life jackets and gas masks at the ready. We were able to "convince" Achillie Lauro to go the other way, she wound up going into Port Said Egypt instead.

The second document is the news gram message about the ship's participation in the incident, from way back in the "olden days" when there was no such thing as e mail, the only news we got back then were these messages "news grams" posted in the passageway by the mess deck and outside ships office."
